Cakes Galore @ 1 Caramel

1 Caramel @ Hardy Road

Was introduced to this petite cafe by a friend...
But had never tried before...

Happened that I'm meeting a long time friend whom I had not met for like years.
I had 3 buddies during secondary school days...
We were on good terms when we were in the same class for 1 year.
Thereafter, 2 of us went into the same class while the other 2 in the other same class.

Moving on to the higher education, 3 of them went on to the JC while I'm the only on heading Poly.
Despite the change, we used to try meeting up as much as we can whenever it is the term breaks.
All 3 of them became "guiding stars" to "future pillars of the country" while I'm the only one heading a different path.

Over the years as we grow up, we moved on to a different stage of life.
Our groups of friends had changed somehow and we did not catch up as often as we did.
I only managed to catch up with this friend of mine just for a few times only after we left secondary school.
But I'm very glad to be able to catch her after such a long time.
Well, as many would say "It takes 10 years to build a relationship, but just 10 seconds to destroy it..."
So I really valued all the friends that come into my life over the years.

Before deciding on 1 Caramel, we actually don't know where we should meet.
After knowing that she is now leaving along the NE line while I'm on the NW, we agreed town is the best and most convenient location.

Came to my mind was this petite cafe, 1 Caramel.
I've been wanting to try and luckily my friend does not have any issue with it.
This petite cafe is located amist the busiest part of Singapore.
Cake lovers would probably have been their regulars while common crowd would probably just missed it.

The creator of this cafe makes her own cakes and you can see it all displayed at the shelves just behind the counter.
You will feel all the cakes seducing you with their wonderful colours and designs, telling you that they taste good as well.

Thinking just cakes would probably be a little underfill, we went ahead with some savouries.
(which I would not be commenting much here)
But the ultimate target is still those tantalizing cakes waiting on the shelves.

I went to the website and got to know that one of their specialty is [Midori] .
Alternating layers of matcha sponge and azuki beans in yuzu infused *bavarois.
* Bavarois is a Bavarian cream in French made from milk, cream or fruit puree then aerated with whipped cream and egg white before allowing to set in the fridge with gelatin
Matcha and azuki are always very good companions and they make very good match of each other.
Yuzu infused bavarois is very erm...yuzu...
Just a little on the sweet side.
But hey, how can dessert be not sweet??

We went ahead to order 1 more since there are 2 of us.
[Secret Garden] is our next order.
It is very tarte-like, bottomed with a layer of crust, sandwich by cream/custard and lots of fruits.
Totally refreshed by the fruits which are quite a bit considering the size of the whole slice.
From our slice, we got almost 2 of each kind, mango, kiwi and strawberry.
(We managed to divide it equally without needing to fight!! haha)
However, I think due to the savouries and 2 pieces of cakes which comes to a little overfill, we actually got quite pumped up towards the end of Secret Garden.
Maybe it was a little creamy after what we had.

(Left to right: Secret Garden, Midori)

Along the time we were enjoying, the table next to us ordered some cakes and the chocolate one is so tempting and sinful.
(droolz)
Why did we ordered the savouries??!!

It was a few good hours of catching up with my friend and we were satisfied!
But both of us agree that next visit to 1 Caramel, is pure cake indulgence!

Verdict:
Perfect petite cafe for cakes!!!
Reasonable prices considering there are more expensive and not as good cakes outside.
Savories ain't too bad either, but probably no savories and cakes at one go if you stomach capacity ain't big enough.
Would visit again and definitely trying out on their different cakes.
Recommended to any cake-holics out there who are looking for good cakes!
